Bonneyville Trial Garden

The American Dahlia Society (ADS) sponsors trial gardens across North America to provide a place for hybridizers to have their new dahlia cultivars evaluated. The Trial Gardens are generally located in parks or gardens where the public can visit and watch the dahlias grow and bloom. The ADS provides detailed specifications for the practices used to grow the dahlias and for the evaluation of the dahlias.

One such garden, the Bonneville Trial Garden, is located in Bristol, Indiana in the Bonneyvill Mills Park.  Steve Kuiper is the director.  Learn more about trial gardens here.

Dahlia Judging Seminar

Aug 10, 2024, Saturday, 9am - 3pm

Location: Bonneyville Mill Park, 53998 County Road 131, Bristol, IN

The Midwest Dahlia Conference and Elkhart Dahlia Society (EDS) will hold a Dahlia Judging Seminar and potluck luncheon at the Bonneyville Mill Dahlia Trial Garden.

Experienced dahlia judges will be evaluating the new varieties growing in the trial garden. New growers and guests may join a team of judges as they discuss the qualities of the blooms and plants. Veteran growers will be there to share their knowledge and answer questions that will help you become a successful dahlia grower.

Lunch will be served at the one room schoolhouse at the park. When exiting the parking lot turn left, heading uphill. The white building on the right is the schoolhouse. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.

After lunch there will be a presentation on how to stage blooms at the September show at Farmstead Expo Barn in Shipshewana. Warren Vigor will give a special demonstration on staging for the Vigor Challenge.

Contact Steve Kuiper for more information if needed.  No registration is required to attend the event.
